Clinical Pharmacology:

Gentamicin sulfate is a water-soluble antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group active against a wide variety of pathogenic gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria .
The gram-positive bacteria against which Gentamicin sulfate is active include coagulase-positive and
coagulase-negative staphylococci,including certain strains to Pencillin; group A betahemolytic and
nonhemolytic streptococci; diplocoocus pneumonia.
The gram-negative bacteria against which Gentamicin sulfate is active include certain strains of
pseudomonas aeruginosa, indole-positive and indole-negative proteus species, escherichia coli,
klebsiella pneumonia (friedlander’s bacillus), haemophilus influenzae and haemophillus aegyptius
and haemophillus aegyptius( koch weeks bacillus ), aerobacter aerogenes, moraxella lacunata
( diplobacillus of morax- axenfeld ), and neisseria species, including neisseria gonorrhoeae .

Indications & Usage :
Gentamycin – medico sterile ophthalmic solution and ointment is indicated in the topical treatment of
infections of the external eye and its adnexa caused by susceptible bacteria. Such infections
include conjunctivitis, Keratitis and keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcers blepharitis and
blepharoconjunctivitis, acute meibomainitis, and dacryocystitis .

Contraindications :
This product is contraindicated in patients whith known hypersensitivities to any of its components .

Precautions :
Generally : prolonged use of topical antibiotics may give rise to overgrowth of the nonsusceptible
micro-organisms, such as fungi, if this occur, or if irritation or hypersensitivity to any of
component of the drug develops, discontinue the treatment of the preparation and institute
appropriate therapy .

Adverse reactions :
Transient irritation has been reported with the use of topical ophthalmic Gentamicin sulfate .

Dosage & Administration :
Gentamycin – medico ophthalmic solution : instill one or two drops into the affected eye(s) every
four hours .
In severe infections, dosage may be increased to as much as two drops once every hour .
Gentamycin – medico ophthalmic Ointment : Apply a small amount to the affected eye two to
three times daily .

Storage conditions :
Store up to 25°c
