Properties :
Tobramycin is considered a broad spectrum antibiotic for the topical treatment of the external ocular
infections .
It belong to the aminoglucosides group which have an active action against negative and positive grams
organisms which cause the ocular diseases .
Indications :
Tobramed is indicated for the treatment of the external ocular infections and its adnexa caused by some
sensitive bacteria .
Contra indications :
It is not indicated to the individuals who have hypersensitivity to Tobramycin .
Drug interactions :
Care should be exercised when tobramycin is given to patients receiving other drugs with neuromuscular blocking activity or which are ototoxic .
Tobramycine and carbenicillin have been repoted to have an enhanced effect .
The two antibiotics should be administered separately when both are required .
Pergnancy and lactation :
pregnancy ( category B ) : Tobramed should be taken only if clearly needed .
Tobramed should not be used during lactation .
Precautions :
Avoid touch any surface with the ointment tube head or dropper head .
The topical use of amino glucosides may cause sensitivity in some patients , treatment must be stopped
immediately if any sensitive reactions occurs .
Prolonged use of this preparation may cause growth of non sensitive organisms sush as fungi .
Side effects :
Pruritus, irritation, eyelids inflation , erythema of conjunctiva , and lacrimation .
Usage & Administration :
Ophthalmic solution :
( 1 – 2 ) drops in the eye every 4 hours .
In acute infections : 2 drops every one hours until improvement .
Ophthalmic Oint :
Applied ( 2 – 3 ) times daily .
In acute infections it is applied each ( 3 – 4 ) hours until improvement .
Storage conditions : Store up to 30°C.
Packing :
Ophthalmic solution : bottle 10 ml.
Ophthalmic ointment : Tube contains 5 g .
